Artist Statement

My identity and how I see myself is something I've struggled to define. Through my upcoming artworks and deep introspection, I'm hoping that I'll find out more about myself and my place in the world. In the past, I had decided to use my skills in the realm of production and tech work, but as I've taken more classes and gotten more experience in other types of media, I've gained an interest in coding and graphic design. One of my biggest influences from when I was younger is video games. My exposure to videos games began when I was a child at the age of about 4. I started out by playing Nintendo games such as Super Mario and Pokémon, but the one that had the biggest effect on me would have to be Legend of Zelda. To this day, it remains my favorite franchise and even though I've played some of the games in the series more than once, they're just as fun as they were the first time I played them. Video games provide me an escape from the other worries and anxieties I have in life and allow me to empty my mind and stay in a separate world. My identity as a Latina is also something I would like to possibly add into my work. Having a greater representation of my culture through art and being the person who is behind the art would be incredible. I aspire to use my skills from this class and my other media classes to make art that I'll be proud of and will represent me and who I am.
