Our trip to the
Museum of Moving Image was full of both old and new experiences that were an
unforgettable experience. I have been to the museum a few times before our trip
but I feel as if the exhibits have a fresh and new feel to them every time I
visit. One of the things I learned about was something that I’ve seen multiple
times during my trips to the museum which is the model production of a set.
They had many of these on display and it was very interesting to see a part of
the development process when it comes to making either the models for a set or
just a small scene in the movie. One of the models that really caught my eye
was the one crafted for The Muppets. It was fascinating to see the way that it
was constructed that you could be on one side of the model and only seeing the Muppets
with no way to see who is controlling them or how they’re being controlled and
on the other side you can see the puppeteers working their magic. Another thing
that I found interesting that I learned while I was on the tour was that most
of the models on display were made out of cardboard. Changes in moving image
technology has significantly changed how we experience it and how we can enjoy
these moving images on another scale and appreciate them on another level, be
it through advancements in cameras, set design or in FX makeup.
